2014 AAJA Leadership in Diversity Award

FRANK BLETHEN - PUBLISHER, THE SEATTLE TIMESAAJA is proud to announce Frank Blethen as the winner of the 2014 Leadership in Diversity Award.

This award honors an individual or corporation that has made strides in promoting and demonstrating diversity in the news media industry. The Leadership in Diversity Award winner is selected by the AAJA National Board and will be recognized at the AAJA National Convention Scholarship & Awards Gala Banquet on Sunday, August 16 at the Renaissance Downtown Washington, DC Hotel in the Renaissance Ballroom.

Frank Blethen, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer, The Seattle Times

Frank A. Blethen has been publisher and chief executive officer of The Seattle Times since 1985. Being the fourth generation member of the Blethen family, who founded The Seattle Times in 1896, he has held executive positions in circulation, advertising, marketing and labor. In 2011, Frank’s quality journalism has been recognized by being the first publisher to be awarded the News Leadership Award presented by the American Society of News Editors. He received the Asian American Journalists Association’s Special Recognition Award and the Northwest Journalists of Color Diversity Award.Blethen is a graduate of Arizona State University and has done post-graduate work at Harvard. Frank supports cultural diversity, equal opportunity and the community service. He is a strong advocate for family-owned businesses and independent journalism.
